Using Illustrator, I designed the front and back cover for my notebook. I took an image from the internet and made it into a vector image. Then I added text, the star, and pasted another image on the back. Next, I changed the color of the outline of the notebook and the star to red because I wanted the laser to cut them out. I kept the the text and other images black because I only wanted those engraved.

Setting up my Illustrator file on the Laser UCP.
In the set up process, print your illustrator design and then add the thickness of the mat board you are using. In UCP, reposition your design so that it fully prints onto your material. Once you have finished re-positioning your design, close the laser, click the green play arrow on the computer, and watch the laser cut out your project.

Using Illustrator, create a box that has dimensions of 5" x 8.4". Create the design you want to have engraved onto your water bottle. I chose two images off of the internet and made them into outlines. I also added text with my last name to personalize the water bottle more.

Setting up my water bottle in the rotational jig in the laser.
Open the water bottle design on the UCP and re-positioned the laser to print the design on the water bottle. After checking that all the design will print onto the water bottle, close the laser lid, and click the green arrow on the computer screen to print your design.

What I Learned...
After my rotation at the laser, I learned that it is important to make sure you follow the steps closely because if you forget one, it can take a lot of time to go back and fix it. Also, I learned that it I need to remember to take pictures along the way because it takes a lot of time to go back and get snips or photos of each of the important steps. Overall, I managed my time well and I was able to complete all three laser projects in the class time given.
